Mark Sanchez Named Starting QB for Jets

with one comment

The rookie will start week 1 against the Texans:

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Rookie Mark Sanchez was named the New York Jets’ starting quarterback Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the decision.

Sanchez, the fifth overall draft pick out of Southern California, beat out veteran Kellen Clemens with a solid training camp and will be under center for the Jets’ season opener at Houston on Sept. 13. The person requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the decision.

Mark Sanchez outperformed Kellen Clemens in training camp. It’s that simple. His play, coupled with Clemens’ erratic and sometimes awful showing, earned him the starting job. I think he’s a good QB with a lot of poise and promise. He’s now the field general for the Jets, tasked with hopefully leading them for years to come.

In Sanchez we trust!
